Welcome to Nunavut

In Iqaluit, the air is crystal and the snow squeaks under paws. An inuksuk points the way across the tundra. Dad smiles. “Up here, we move with the land.”

The Story

Harley meets a friendly musher and a team of huskies. He rides on a qamutiik sled, ears flapping, while the dogs run steady and sure. “They are very good at zoomies,” Harley declares.

That night the aurora blooms across the sky in green ribbons. Harley watches without blinking. “It looks like the sky is wagging,” he whispers. Dad squeezes his shoulder.

In a small shop, Harley finds a gray-and-white plush with bright eyes and a little blue harness. Dad nods. “Say hello to Qimmiq the Husky.” Qimmiq promises to keep watch over the trail mix and to lead Harley to warm places on cold days.

Qimmiq the Husky

Loyal, brave, and snow-soft, Qimmiq is a gray-and-white plush husky with bright eyes and a small blue harness. He loves fresh tracks, cozy dens, and friends who share biscuits.

Qimmiq’s motto: “Run steady, rest warm.” He reminds Harley that teamwork makes the trail easier.

Harley’s note: “Qimmiq says I can be lead dog if I do not chase the sled rope.”
