Welcome to the NWT

Yellowknife shimmers beside Great Slave Lake, and Harley’s breath puffs like tiny clouds. “Do we really drive on the lake?” he asks. Dad nods. “In winter, the road is made of ice.” Harley whispers, “That is the coolest road ever.”

The Story

Oliver rolls gently along an ice road while the sunset paints the snow in pink and gold. Harley sits very tall, pretending to be a brave arctic pilot. Dad smiles. “Steady as she goes.”

That night the aurora unfurls in green ribbons. Harley doesn’t speak—he just leans into Dad’s side and watches the sky dance. Somewhere far off, a dog team barks hello.

In town, a cozy shop glows with carvings and crafts. On a shelf sits a white plush bear wearing a blue scarf, eyes kind as winter stars. “Meet Nukka,” Dad says. Harley grins. “Perfect. He can guard the cocoa.”

Snowy white and steady, Nukka wears a cozy blue scarf and hums a little tune when the wind sings. He’s brave, gentle, and excellent at keeping paws warm during stargazing.

Nukka’s motto: “Walk softly, shine warmly.” He reminds Harley that quiet courage lasts the longest.

Harley’s note: “Nukka says my hat is stylish. He is correct.”
